These are now being arranged. Please see the Meetings section of this website for details.
Members are reminded that:
- Motions for the agenda, and
- Nominations (duly proposed and seconded) for the Officials and Committee,
should be received in writing by the Secretary at least seven days prior to the meeting.
Minutes of last years AGM can be found in the “Downloads” section of this website.
Mike Newell has confirmed he will be guest speaker at our 5th March 2011 meeting at Cuckney Cricket Club.
As all of you should now be aware the League handbook in regards to Umpires expenses is wrong. The expense fee this year is £35 each when standing as a pair, £35 + £10 when standing alone and £10 only when attending a match where there is No play. All clubs have been circulated by the League Management Committee and know what the fee should be; remember payment should be made during the tea interval.
The weather is already causing cancellations and delays. Can I urge all of you to re-read the Law and Leagues rules regarding fitness for play due to poor weather etc.
Law 3.8, 3.9, 7.2 and the comments in Tom Smiths. The League rules in your handbook regarding delayed starts, reduction of overs, time games and last hour.
A nightmare I know.
John Heaman
It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that John has been elected Vice President of the League for season 2010 and therefore he will be League President in 2011. John has been a stalwart of our Association for many years. He represented the BDUA on the League Management Committee and was instrumental in the setting up of umpire assessments. He still continues to travel around the grounds doing boundary assessments of umpires on your behalf. His election is thoroughly deserved and I am sure he will be a great success.
The ECB and the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board have issued objectives regarding the standards of behaviour from all people participating in the game of cricket. The Committee of the Bassetlaw & District Umpires Association and the League Management Committee of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League fully endorse these objectives. The League Management Committee have already circulated clubs and instructed them to follow these guidelines which are set out below:
Umpires pre-match briefing to Captains
To help the environment the game is played in it is advised that the following points are made clear to both Captains at the toss. Captains are to be reminded that they are responsible for the behaviour of their players at all times.
1) The fielding side should follow the umpires onto the field of play at the start of play and after every interval. i.e. no players to be on the field before the umpires.
2) Umpiring decisions to be accepted by players, viz. no dissent .
3) No excessive appealing
4) Bad language to be moderated – it is a public area with spectators likely to include ladies and children .
5) Adverse comments towards opposing players to be discouraged with particular reference to fielders remarks to batsmen.
6) Umpires will keep Captains aware of the over rate, normally after 1 hour, at half way and after 2 hours.
It is with great pleasure that we can announce the appointment of the President of our Association, Mike Smedley, as President of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club for 2010.
Mike is the former Captain of Notts CCC and still umpires regularly in the Bassetlaw League. He is chairman of Senior Cricket for the Notts Cricket Board and President of the Bassetlaw & District Umpires Association.
It is an honour well deserved and could not have happened to a nicer man.
